"You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else." was Melvin Jones' personal code, and it helped found the Lions in 1917. Today it is as true as ever. The Cumberland/North Yarmouth Lions need your help to continue to make our community a great place to live.

Our club has donated over one million dollars in funding and services to the community. We could not do this without your generosity. We've served the area since 1961, supporting many different community needs.

 

The Cumberland/North Yarmouth Lions Club funds grants that specifically support projects and people in our community that align with the core charitable causes of the Club:

• Health – Primarily vision issues but also including diabetes, hearing, organ donation, etc.

• Relieving hunger and homelessness

• Engaging youth, seniors, and veterans

We provide funding for many local charities by providing eyeglass service and vision screenings, sponsoring Greely scholarships, supporting and sponsoring local scout troops, delivering poinsettias to the elderly at Christmas time, sponsoring Greely delegates to Boys and Girls State, funding the local Food Pantry, and spearheading the annual Christmas Tree lighting / Santa visit event in the Town Center.

The Club's Grant Funding Committee meets annually to review grant requests. All money received goes to important service programs in our community! Community-based organizations with a local presence, like our club, often know best what assistance is needed and understand the social and cultural context of a need. *The Cumberland / North Yarmouth Lions Club is a 501(c)(4) non-profit. Our club is an association of local people with a shared interest to support and promote the common interests of our community. Our crowdfunding-like appeal is a relatively new way to donate money for charitable purposes. Until the IRS publishes a formal ruling on the subject of crowdfunding, we rely on their existing guidance that Contributions to 501(c)(4) organizations are not deductible as charitable contributions on the donor’s federal income tax return.
